Recall that in the month of December, the Bishop of Catholic Diocese in Sokoto, Matthew Hassan Kukah released a Christmas message following the recent situation of the country.
Bishop Kukah in his Christmas message lamented about the killings, kidnappings and some other serious issues happening in the country. He also condemned President Mohammadu Buhari’s leadership style.
Following the Christmas message, from Bishop Kukah, a Muslim Solidarity forum sent a strong message to Kukah, saying that he should apologize to all Muslim community or leave Sokoto State.
On Thursday 14th of January, 2021 Channel Televion reported that presidency has sent a strong warning to those asking Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah to leave Sokoto State.
According to Channel Televion, the presidency has faulted the Muslim Solidarity Forum over a threat it issued to the the Bishop of Sokoto Catholic Diocese, Matthew Hassan Kukah to tender an apology over a recent comment credited to him or leave the state.
The Presidency described the situation as an assault on Bishop Kukah’s freedom.
This statement was signed and released by the Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on media and publicity, Garba Shehu.
The presidency warned that Kukah must be allowed to practice his faith and politics, adding that the threat from the group is not in line with the constitution of Nigeria.
